Studio 8 Graphics began as a fine art screen printing atelier, printing limited editions for artists, dealers and publishers. To begin with our editions were entirely hand separated and hand printed, but over the years we acquired equipment which broadened the scope of the projects we could undertake.
Our hand printing was supplemented by a semi-automatic press for larger images and longer print runs, and thanks to our early adoption of computer technology we began to generate separations digitally and print them to film with a large format plotter.
As we upgraded from the Hewlett Packard Designjet 450 with dye-based inks to the Hewlett Packard DesignJet 2500CP with pigmented inks we began to consider the possibility of purely digital printing. Our next plotters were the
Epson Stylus Pro 9600 and 7600, which exceeded, in our estimation, the quality and resolution of the so-called Giclee printers. We came to regard these machines as legitimate artists' tools. We produced a number of hybrid editions with the Epsons, combining screen printing and digital printing. Our latest upgrade was to the Epson Stylus Pro 9800.
